Football kicks off in Italy and David Beckham puts in one hell of a shift for the Three Lions.

2001 – Redemption Day for Beckham

While today’s nugget of football history is not about working for a paper merchant in Slough, David Brent’s words are a perfect way to describe how England captain David Beckham was feeling today in 2001, when his injury time free kick hit the back of the Greek net, propelling the Three Lions into the World Cup finals and ridding him of his personal demons from the 1998 World Cup. 1929 – Serie A Kicks Off

It was on this day in 1929 that the first matches in the new Serie A national league were played. The pick of the results from the first day of the competition include a 3-2 win for Juventus over Napoli, a 3-0 win for Lazio over Bologna, and Internazionale beating Livorno 2-1 away.
